Zulu / Xhosa "To Accompany"
in a Nutshell:
Packaged in a London Bus, 'Ukukhapha' ( Pronounced oo - koo - ka - pah ) is an ambitious project to bring exposure to Musicians, Artists, Believers, Creators and Dreamers from the developing world.
A self contained mobile music venue with superior lighting, sound and event production; our bus will ultimately include facilities for music recording, podcasting and digital content creation.
Initially generating a support base in the UK and Europe; "who we are" will be defined by an epic journey south. Through some of the most diverse, vibrant and energetic music scenes in the world. Where the underexposed magic lies...
Encompassing the African spirit of Ubuntu*, Our goal is to bring resources that are often inaccessible and prohibitively expensive to up and coming musicians in the far flung regions of the globe. To give agency and amplitude to their already impressive art. Simultaneously drawing attention to this most impressive continent after a difficult 2 years. Africa shall no longer remain silent in the wings, we are here to be heard!
*Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term meaning "humanity" and is sometimes translated as "I am because we are".
In Xhosa, the term is often meant in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity".
Our name 'Ukukhapha' translates literally as 'to accompany'. However, it is the deeper meaning that cements our project ethos:
"We will come with you because no-one should have to go alone "
